Strike A Pose: Unusual HS Wrestling Portraits

Kenston HS outside Akron is one of the better prep wrestling programs
in the state of Ohio. And their wrestling website is definitely one of
the best, with tons of photos, reports and useful information.

I was just checking their website for updates, and was a bit surprised
to see the individual wrestler portraits on display.

Most school websites have their wrestlers pictured in very traditional
poses — standing straight with backs against the wall… or in a
traditional stance.

Kenston’s portraits are somewhat non-traditional.

One of the Bombers is shown holding a basketball. More than one has a
hat. A couple show off tattoos. More than a couple do muscle poses.

Take a look and see what you think:

PS Not too long ago, a number of schools did “fun “team photos —
wrestlers as fighter pilots, firefighters, Harley riders, Corvette
drivers, cowboys… A number of these might have even been labeled
“beefcake “showing off wrestlers’ physiques. However, these “fun”
photos don’t seem as common as they once were. Is this a
budget/expense issue? Did someone complain? Or did wrestling programs
decide “been there, done that “and have gone back to straightforward
team shots in the gym? Or… am I completely wrong and just not seeing
the latest in “fun “team photos?
