Update from Coach Sabol on “Save Montclair Wrestling”

The Save Montclair State Wrestling Update #2 from Coach Joe Sabol
Joe Sabol/Montclair State wrestling coach

* Over $70K has been pledged to bring back the wrestling program at MSU. Parents, Alumni, Celebrities, and Fans have all made contribution. Every pledge helps. Let’s keep them coming in!!!

MSU Students
* The Student Government Association (SGA), through the efforts of the president, Jacob Hudnut and legislators, David Kois and Adam Roth, is working to pass several resolutions aimed at voicing their opposition to these cuts & for finding funds to reinstate the cut programs.
* The Monclairian (MSU School Newspaper) has run several articles covering the cuts and our fight to re-instate.

Political
* The Borough of Haledon is working to pass a resolution in support of MSU Wrestling through councilwomen, Heather Kilminster. Once passed, their will be continued efforts to have similar resolutions passes throughout New Jersey.
* Congressman Pascrell continues to lobby on our behalf to have this decision re-considered.
* Other high ranking national political figures are currently crafting letters to the University in our support

Media
* The Star Ledger has run several pieces covering our progress and will continue to do so.
* Don Wiebel of www.NJSelect.com , Danny Mullen of www.monmouthshore.com , www.themat.com , and www.intermatwrestle.com have been instrumental in driving emails and letters to the University.

It is important that we continue the pressure on all fronts until this decision is reversed. As I have mentioned earlier, the University is listening and working with me to find a resolution. The key is to show we have enough support to keep this program running and growing for many years to come.

Attached to this email is a pledge form. Any financial contributions/pledges will be greatly appreciated. Please fill out the form and send to my attention either via mail or email.

Thank You again for everyone’s support.

Sincerely,

Joe Sabol

SAVE MSU COMMITMENT LETTER

Dear Friends of MSU Wrestling,

Montclair State University has recently announced its intention to drop the sport of wrestling beginning next year along with 4 other intercollegiate sports. We have formed a committee to help save our program from these cuts.

MSU Wrestling has consistently produced All-Americans and National Champions year after year. MSU ranks 2nd All Time in the number of All-Americans in all of Division 3 Wrestling. Additionally, MSU has produced 5 Academic All-Americans in the past 2 years while being named as an Academic All American Team in 2003. It is the most accomplished team in MSU history.

The stated reasons for the cuts are budgetary. It is our hope to present a plan to the University that provides enough funds to endow the program for the next 10 years. The State of New Jersey has over 10,000 high school wrestlers at over 400 programs. Currently there are only six 4 year institutions offering intercollegiate wrestling. It is vital that our kids have an opportunity to stay in NJ and continue their wrestling careers. Wrestling is a sport which helps build character, discipline, self-reliance, and leadership.

We need your help in this effort to raise money. Please fill out the form below with your financial commitment to the MSU wrestling program. Email or Mail to Address Below.

Sincerely,

Joe Sabol
