Palmer to grapple with bear

From The Plain Dealer staff reports

St. Edward senior Lance Palmer will wrestle a 650-pound bear 10 times next week during the Cleveland Sport, Travel & Outdoor Show.

Palmer, who Saturday won his fourth state wrestling championship competing at 140 pounds, will take on “Caesar the Wrestling Bear “in exhibition matches starting Sunday at the 69th annual show, which is being held at the I-X Center.

Palmer and his freshman brother, Collin, were profiled in The Plain Dealer last week for their training regimen, which has included sparring with bears their father, Dwayne, works with.

Lance Palmer will take on Caesar, which is a stage name for a collection of wrestling bears, at noon and 4:30 p.m. Sunday; at 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. March 15; at noon, 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. March 18; and at noon and 4 p.m. March 19.

The bear will be muzzled, leashed and supervised by two trained handlers.

Tickets to the show are $9.95 for adults and $4 for children ages 6-12. Children 5 and younger are free. For more information, call 1-800-600-0307.
