Wrestling Camp Features McCoy

Two-time Olympian returns to Pinecrest High School this week as head clinician for the Moore County Wrestling Camp. McCoy took fifth place in the 2000 Olympiad and seventh in the 2004 Athens games. He is a two-time NCAA Champion, four-time World Cup Champion, five-time United States National Champion and a Pan Am Champion.

A three-time All-American at Penn State University, McCoy captured three Big Ten Championships, Penn State Athlete of the Year and Nittany Lion Wrestler of the Year honors. He amassed a 150-18 college record that included an 88-match winning streak with wins in 131 of his last 132 matches.

McCoy recently accepted the position of head wrestling coach at Stanford University.

Wrestling brothers Scott and Josh Moore add a double bonus of expertise to the camp again this year.

Scott Moore competed at the University of Virginia, where he is now an assistant coach. He holds the all-time record for pins at UVA, and was named “America’s Best Pinner” in 2003. A two-time NCAA All-American, he qualified for the NCAA finals three times and received the 2003 Wade Schalles Award.

Brother Josh Moore wrestled at Penn State and is now an assistant coach at Kent State. He holds the Penn State record for most career pins, qualified for the NCAA finals twice and is a two-time All-American.

The Moore County wrestling camp is a day camp program that will be held at Pinecrest High School on July 12-13. The camp is open to school age (1-12 grades) wrestlers of all skill levels. Morning sessions run from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Afternoon sessions run from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.

Sessions will include instruction, drills and live competition. There will be a lunch break from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Lunch is not provided.
