Jan. 4, 2005

NEW YORK – History will be in the making on Wednesday, January 12, when CSTV: College Sports Television (www.collegesports.com) presents the telecast of a NCAA wrestling meet pitting No. 13 Missouri against No. 6 Lehigh from the historic New York Athletic Club in New York City (9 p.m. CT/7 p.m. PT). It will be the first televised athletic event originating from the venerable Club, which was formed in 1868. Jason Knapp and Quint Kessenich will call the action for CSTV.

The New York Athletic Club has enjoyed a rich, unparalleled history of amateur athletic excellence across numerous sports, and has hosted many amateur wrestling events. New York Athletic Club athletes have captured at least 115 Olympic gold medals, 40 silver medals and 47 bronze medals, more than all but four countries.

College Sports TV’s January 12 telecast is part of the network’s extensive NCAA wrestling schedule, the only nationally televised college wrestling package, which also includes dual meets featuring defending NCAA champ Oklahoma State, runner-up Iowa and perennial powerhouses Ohio State, Nebraska, Penn State, Illinois and Minnesota. College Sports TV’s 2005 NCAA wrestling menu includes teams that have won all but one NCAA national team title since 1969, and 13 of the top 14 finishers at last year’s NCAA Championship.

Missouri currently sports a 7-0 dual meet record, while Lehigh stands at 7-1. The meet could generate highly anticipated match-ups such as #3-ranked Cory Cooperman of Lehigh against #16 Chris McCormick of Missouri at 141 pounds, #1 Troy Letters of Lehigh against #8 Tyron Woodley of Missouri at 165 pounds, #2 Ben Askren of Missouri vs. #14 Travis Frick of Lehigh at 174 pounds, and #3 Jon Trenge of Lehigh vs. #18 Jeff Foust of Missouri at 197 pounds.

College Sports TV’s college wrestling coverage extends to The 1 College Sports Show, the network’s groundbreaking studio show covering all aspects of college athletics, and CollegeSports.com and its network of more than 170 official athletic sites. CollegeSports.com’s coverage includes College Sports Pass, the leading online college sports audio and video broadband subscription service which provides live audio and video of wrestling and other events.
