Wrestlers investigated for hazing

A complaint involving members of the Avoca-Hancock-Shelby-Tennant High School wrestling team is under investigation by the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s office.<\/p>\n
A-H-S-T Superintendent Chuck Scott said a parent filed the complaint with Avoca police March 8, and the police then asked for help from the sheriff.<\/p>\n
“They said there’s been some hazing going on, “Scott said of the parent’s complaint.<\/p>\n
The sheriff’s office contacted him on Wednesday, Scott said, and Avoca police returned on Thursday and Friday to conduct additional interviews.<\/p>\n
The investigation is continuing, but Scott said Monday he could not say more because minors are involved.<\/p>\n
Scott said he and Susan Peterson, the high school principal, have continued to meet with students, parents and coaches and hope to release a statement by the end of the week.<\/p>\n
“We’re not going to take this and sweep it under the rug, “Scott said. “There will be consequences.”<\/p>\n
“The actions of a few are totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated, “he said.<\/p>\n
Officer Chad Dennler of the Avoca Police Department said he was referring all calls about the investigation to the Pottawattamie County Attorney’s office.<\/p>\n
County Attorney Matt Wilber and Sheriff Jeff Danker confirmed the on-going investigation.<\/p>\n
“There are some serious allegations that have been raised. We are investigating them, “Wilber said.<\/p>\n
Wilber and Danker said they hope to have more to say by the middle to the end of the week.<\/p>\n
