Tenth-ranked Wrestling Rolls Past Eastern Michigan, 31-9 <\/p>\n
Chippewas win eight of the nine contested matches. <\/p>\n
MOUNT PLEASANT – The Central Michigan University wrestling team kept things rolling with a 31-9 victory over Eastern Michigan at home Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The Chippewas won eight of the nine matches that were contested to move to 11-4 overall, 2-0 in the Mid-American Conference. CMU forfeited 133 because of injury, giving EMU six of its nine team points. EMU falls to 5-9, 0-3 in the MAC.<\/p>\n
The dual began at 184 and EMU took the early lead as 15th-ranked Ed Magrys recorded a 6-5 victory over CMU’s Lammers, ranked 16th. Magrys used a takedown in the second period to take the early lead and held off a late charge by Lammers for the victory.<\/p>\n
The Chippewas answered with a technical fall at 197 by 12th-ranked Wynn Michalak over Tony Lyssiotis, 18-2. Michalak dominated the match scoring three takedowns and nine nearfall points in a match that ended early in the second period. Bill Stouffer extended CMU’s lead with a 15-1 major decision over Charlie Walker at heavyweight. Stouffer controlled the final two period of the match, scoring 13 of his points in those two periods. <\/p>\n
CMU’s domination continued at 125 with Luke Smith tallying a fall over Mike Weck at the 3:11 mark. Smith was leading 15-3 when he got the fall. The Maroon and Gold then decided to rest their 133-pounder and forfeit 133.<\/p>\n
CMU’s Brandon Carter came from behind at 141 to defeat Nick Conklin, 9-7. Carter was trailing 7-6 entering the latter stages of the thirdperiod, but took Conklin down with about 15 seconds left for the victory. CMU’s Mark DiSalvo, ranked 10th, took control over his match with Jermaine Thompson with a pair of first period takedowns and cruised to a 6-3 victory at 149.<\/p>\n
Chippewa Eric Neil used six takedowns to record a 13-6 win over Ryan Furniss at 157. David Bolyard then notched his 99th career victory with a 16-6 victory over Ben Best at 165. Bolyard notched seven takedowns in the match.<\/p>\n
The dual wrapped up with a match between ranked wrestlers as CMU’s Mitch Hancock, ranked seventh, took on No. 18 J.J. Holmes. After Holmes scored the first points with a takedown, Hancock dominated the rest of the match by notching two takedowns and a reversal for a 8-3 win.<\/p>\n
The Chippewas return to action next weekend with a dual against Buffalo on Saturday, Feb. 5. The contest is set to start at 7:30 p.m., in Rose Arena.<\/p>\n
