Joe Dennis Named EWL Wrestler of the Week<\/p>\n
Freshman heavyweight tallied two wins on the weekend. <\/p>\n
CLEVELAND – After tallying a pair of wins against Eastern Wrestling League opponents this weekend, Cleveland State freshman heavyweight Joe Dennis has been named the EWL Wrestler of the Week.<\/p>\n
Dennis scored the match-deciding win at No. 25 Edinboro on Friday (Feb. 11), throwing down and pinning Joe Hennis with 10 seconds left in the bout to give CSU a 22-20 win. He notched an insurance decision against Clarion on Sunday (Feb. 13) as the Vikings came away with a 25-18 victory.<\/p>\n
“This is a testament to the year he has been having, “head coach Jack Effner said. “It’s a great accomplishment. Both of our wrestlers of the week this year have been freshmen, so it points toward a good future.”<\/p>\n
Dennis has been superb for CSU in his rookie campaign, touting a team-best 24 wins, including a 5-0 mark in EWL matches.<\/p>\n
Freshman Marcus Effner received the honor earlier in the year after posting three wins at the Wendy’s Duals in Ashland (1\/16).<\/p>\n
