For a blow-by-blow for each match, go to <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thewrestlingmall.com\/htmls\/news.asp?Cat=4&#038;View=10408 \"target=\"blank\">Augustana Defeats Augsburg in Battle of Small School Powers<\/a><\/p>\n<p>1\/12\/2005 9:48:00 AM<\/p>\n<p>Sioux Falls, S.D. &#8211; Augustana won four of the last five matches of the night, including the final three to defeat Augsburg 22-13 in front of 1,232 fans Tuesday night in the Elmen Center. <\/p>\n<p>The Vikings (4-0), ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division II, trailed 13-12 heading into the 184-pound match. However, Tom Meester, the defending national champion and top-ranked wrestler in Division II, gave Augustana the lead for good when he recorded a 18-6 major decision over Brad Tupa to make the team score 16-13 in favor of the Vikings. <\/p>\n<p>Tim Boldt and Cris Bietz followed with decision victories for Augustana to close out the dual and give the Vikings their first-ever dual win over Augsburg, ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division III, in six meetings. Boldt trailed 5-3 to Justin Sorensen heading into the third period. He scored an escape with 1:41 left in the period to make it 5-4, and then he scored a takedown near the edge of the mat to grab the lead at 6-5 with 1:23 remaining. Boldt, who did not wrestle Saturday against St. Cloud State due to illness, then rode out Sorensen and picked up an additional point for riding time. <\/p>\n<p>Bietz never trailed in his match against Mark Simmonds, ranked No. 4 in Division III. Bietz led 2-0 after one period and 6-1 after two periods. He then rode Simmonds for the entire third period to earn the 7-1 win. <\/p>\n<p>Augustana also got wins from Aaron Graumann, Ryan King and Cody Henriksen. Graumann picked up a forfeit win at 125 pounds, while King, ranked No. 1 at 149 pounds, earned a 6-3 decision over Ryan Stroud. Henriksen, ranked No. 6 at 165 pounds, picked up a big 7-5 win over Ryan Valek, ranked No. 3 in Division III. <\/p>\n<p>Henriksen scored a quick takedown and three-point near fall to grab a 5-0 lead. Valek managed to escape to make the score 5-1 after one period. Leading 7-3 after two periods, Henriksen chose to start the final period in the neutral position. Neither wrestler could manage any offense until Valek scored a takedown with 9 seconds remaining. <\/p>\n<p> Augsburg&#8217;s Marcus LeVesseur, the two-time defending national champion at 157 pounds, reached a milestone in his 15-3 major decision over Austin Scarset. With the win, LeVesseur, a junior, improved to 100-0 in his college career. <\/p>\n<p> Augsburg&#8217;s other wins came from Mark Matzek at 133 pounds, Jamell Tidwell at 141 pounds and Casey Flaherty at 174 pounds. Matzek defeated Chris Trampe 6-2, Tidwell downed Andre Vander Velde 15-8 and Flaherty edged Dusty Wilking 5-2. <\/p>\n<p>Augustana will be back in action on Friday when the Vikings travel to Aberdeen, S.D., to take on Northern State in an 8 p.m. dual. <\/p>\n<p>Augustana 22, Augsburg 13 <br \/>125 Pounds: Aaron Graumann (Augustana) wins by forfeit <br \/>133 Pounds: Mark Matzek (Augsburg) dec.
