UI wants to renovate, expand arena<\/p>\n

The University of Iowa is requesting permission from the Board of Regents to begin planning a renovation of Carver-Hawkeye Arena, a proposal that could cost as much as $40 million.<\/p>\n
The arena was built in 1983 and hasn’t seen a major upgrade. It is home to men’s and women’s Hawkeye basketball, wrestling and volleyball as well as serving 23 of Iowa’s 24 athletic programs in one capacity or another.<\/p>\n
Regents to proceed with planning for a $25 million to $40 million project, according to the board’s agenda released today. Regents could vote on the proposal when they meet for their December board meeting on Monday in Iowa City.<\/p>\n
The project would include an addition and renovation. An expansion to the north part of the arena would include a practice facility for basketball and volleyball. Coaches and administrative offices would be renovated, and premium seating will also be considered during planning.<\/p>\n
The project would be paid for by athletic department earnings and donations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
