STILLWATER, Okla. — An Oklahoma State volunteer wrestling coach who was arrested on a felony drunken driving charge resigned from his position today.<\/p>\n
Four-time NCAA wrestling champion Pat Smith is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.<\/p>\n
A Payne County deputy sheriff stopped Smith early Friday after the deputy saw Smith’s pickup truck leave a rural Stillwater road twice.<\/p>\n
Smith’s brother, John Smith, is wrestling coach at OSU. John Smith said there’s great pain in having his brother leave his staff after 11 years.<\/p>\n
Pat Smith joined his brother’s coaching staff in 1994 after winning his fourth NCAA individual title that year. He’ll be inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame next month.<\/p>\n
Pat Smith was arrested on an aggravated DUI charge in 2001 and pleaded no contest in 2002.<\/p>\n
