IOWA CITY, IA – Tom Brands said he’s ready for ”an enormous challenge” of getting the University of Iowa wrestling program back on top.<\/p>\n
”We’re up for the challenge,” he said Wednesday after being introduced as the Hawkeyes’ eighth coach. ”My biggest priority is uniting the program.”<\/p>\n
Iowa athletics director Bob Bowlsby said after talking with several people about the job, ”we came down to one candidate.<\/p>\n
”He’s exactly the kind of fierce, competitive spirit we’re looking for.<\/p>\n
”I think he’s exactly the right guy to put Iowa back on the traditional pedestal that we enjoyed over so many years.”<\/p>\n
Brands signed a five-year contract worth $115,000 per year. Bowlsby said the contract also has bonus incentives for Big Ten and NCAA
\nperformance and academics.<\/p>\n
