Three-time PIAA wrestling champion Garrett Scott of Juniata Valley has been removed from this weekend’s PIAA Wrestling Championships for a violation of his charter school’s policy.<\/p>\n
The PIAA was informed by Juniata Valley principal Jim Foster of Scott’s 10-day suspension from the Blended Learning Charter School in Orbisonia, Huntingdon County, for what Foster described as “a violation of [Blended Learning’s] Internet acceptable use policy.<\/p>\n
“He wrestles for us,” “Foster said. “We have a policy that we will not permit students under suspension at a cyber or charter school to participate in extracurricular activities here.””<\/p>\n
Upon learning of Scott’s withdrawal at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, the PIAA re-drew the Class AA 140-pound bracket, moving all place winners from the Southwest Region up one place and inserting Chartiers-Houston’s Grady Paxton (20-9) into the state tournament.<\/p>\n
Juniata Valley head wrestling coach Brad Boyd, reached at his home at 2:10 p.m. today, had no comment, but did inform The Patriot-News that he was in the process of making calls to “anyone I have to” “to get Scott reinstated in the tournament.<\/p>\n
Scott, a Penn State recruit, was in line to become Pennsylvania’s 10th four-time state champion had he been able to participate in and win the 140-pound weight class. He was 23-0 this season and 130-2 for his career.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
