{"id":1813,"date":"2005-11-28T06:34:08","date_gmt":"2005-11-28T11:34:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wrestlingpod.com\/wrestling-news\/?p=1813"},"modified":"2005-11-28T06:34:48","modified_gmt":"2005-11-28T11:34:48","slug":"no-2-oklahoma-places-nine-at-oklahoma-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wrestlingpod.com\/wrestling-news\/w1813\/no-2-oklahoma-places-nine-at-oklahoma-open\/","title":{"rendered":"No. 2 Oklahoma Places Nine At Oklahoma Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NORMAN, Okla. &#8212; The Oklahoma wrestling team crowned seven individual champions and placed 10 wrestlers at the 35th annual Oklahoma Open Saturday in Norman. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This was a good tournament for our young guys to grow up in and that is what these meets are for, &#8220;said head coach Jack Spates.<\/p>\n<p>Sooners claiming individual titles were Sam Hazewinkel (125), Kyle Terry (141), Matt Storniolo (149), Wes Roberts (174), Justin Dyer (184), Joel Flaggert (197) and Jake Hager (HWT).<\/p>\n<p>Hazewinkel coming off of a Brockport\/Oklahoma Open championship and a win in the NWCA All-Star Classic claimed his third Oklahoma Open championship. Flaggert had a strong showing after losing this past week in the NWCA All-Star Classic and claimed his third consecutive Oklahoma Open championship. Dyer also repeated as the 184 pound champion, registering a fall in all of his matches  Hager claimed his third individual title of the year (Brockport\/Oklahoma Gold Classic, Missouri Open) as he repeated as the heavweight champion.  <\/p>\n<p>Also placing for the Sooners were Will Rowe (157) third, Chad Terry (149) third, Cody Hilbun (174) third and Austin David (HWT) who finished fourth.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Overall I am very pleased with our performance, &#8220;continued Spates. &#8220;Our showing in this event boads well for us as we prepare for two very, very challenging dual against the University of Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As well as hosting the college portion of the Open the Oklahoma Open also has a High School and Junior High Open.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This tournament year in and year out continues to be a tougher tournament than the Oklahoma High School State tournament, &#8220;Spates said. &#8220;Every divsion is competitive and tough and that makes it a great challenge for the young wrestlers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Sooners will open the dual portion of their schedule when they travel to Edmond to wrestle the University of Central Oklahoma on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NORMAN, Okla. &#8212; The Oklahoma wrestling team crowned seven individual champions and placed 10 wrestlers at the 35th annual Oklahoma Open Saturday in Norman. &#8220;This was a good tournament for our young guys to grow up in and that is what these meets are for, &#8220;said head coach Jack Spates.
