The Iowa wrestling team is still more than a week away from its first competition of the year, but Charlie Falck’s sophomore season has reached injury-plagued status.<\/p>\n
Iowa’s 125-pounder is expected to miss at least a month after undergoing surgery to repair a broken foot, Hawkeye coach Jim Zalesky said Wednesday afternoon. Falck sustained the injury last week when he spun out on his motorcycle.<\/p>\n
“The motorcycle flipped down coming out of his driveway, “Zalesky said. “It fell on him and his foot got caught the wrong way and broke a bone in his foot.”<\/p>\n
Falck missed some mat time earlier in the fall when he suffered a shoulder injury in practice. The latest setback could be enough to keep Falck out of the lineup this season.<\/p>\n
The four-time Minnesota state champion and member of Iowa’s prized 2004 recruiting class compiled a 14-11 record as a true freshman last year. Falck entered this season as a redshirt possibility with junior Luke Magnani and senior Trent Goodale expected to challenge for the starting job at 125.<\/p>\n
“(Falck) might not be ready until after Christmas, “Zalesky said. “With that in mind, we’ll see how he comes back and see how the guys are doing at ’25. If somebody steps up at ’25, they can run with the spot.”<\/p>\n
