Toby Lovecchio, director of athletics at The University of Scranton, has announced that Jim Morgan has been promoted from assistant coach to head coach of the Royals’ wrestling program. <\/p>\n
Morgan, a native of Scranton and a former two-time all-American at King’s College, replaces Brett Owen, who resigned after three seasons as head coach due to employment relocation. <\/p>\n
A 2005 graduate of King’s with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history, Morgan posted a four-year record of 117-22 (.842) as a member of the Monarchs’ wrestling team. He won the 141-pound title at the 2001 and 2003 Middle Atlantic Conference championships and took home the 149-pound championship in 2004. A four-time NCAA Division III qualifier, he earned all-America honors with a second-place finish in the 149-pound weight class at the 2002 championships, which were held at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre Township, and earned all-America status with a fourth-place finish, again at 149 pounds, in 2004.
