NC State Hires Tony Davis As Assistant Wrestling Coach
\nFormer National Champion Rounds Out Wolfpack Coaching Staff<\/p>\n

RALEIGH, N.C. – Tony Davis, a former NCAA champion and two-time All-America wrestler at Northern Iowa, has joined the NC State wrestling staff as a full-time assistant coach.<\/p>\n
Davis comes to NC State from East Chicago (Ind.) Central High School, where he was the head wrestling coach. e previously served as the club wrestling coach at the University of Nebraska and as conditioning coach at Northern Iowa following his graduation.<\/p>\n
As a competitive wrestler, Davis has known nothing but success. After winning the state championship as a senior at Mount Carmel (Ind.) High School, he won two junior college national championships at Iowa Central Community College, then was NCAA runner-up as a junior at Northern Iowa in 1999 and national champion as a senior the following year. He was named Northern Iowa’s Outstanding Senior Athlete in 2000.<\/p>\n
Following his collegiate career, Davis embarked on a career at the international amateur level, and took third place at the 2003 U.S. World Team Trials, followed by a fifth-place finish at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials.<\/p>\n
Davis’ career is well documented as a youth in Illinois, starting out with the Harvey Twisters wrestling program. He became the state’s first five-time kids state champion. Currently ranked eighth at 74kg on the U.S. national team ladder, Davis will come down to 66kg and represents the Sunkist Kids.<\/p>\n
Davis also has participated in the Real Pro Wrestling circuit, wrestling at 145 pounds for the California Claw. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
