Shepparton youngster Heath Nicholson’s four brothers should be on the lookout, otherwise a “fireman”, “superlex “or “cross buttock “could be coming their way.
Nicholson, a Year 9 Shepparton High School student, took more than a passing interest in a training session conducted by the Melbournebased United Wrestling Club yesterday.<\/p>\n
Fellow Shepparton High School student Gurpreet Singh, the current Australian junior champion (74 kg class), is the nephew of club’s president Kuldip Bassi.<\/p>\n
“It’s fun as, “a sweaty Nicholson said after trying some of his new moves out on his mates.<\/p>\n
“You get to throw them around.”<\/p>\n
Nicholson was one of about 110 Shepparton High School Year 9 students who took part in the session that Bassi hopes will lift the profile of the sport.<\/p>\n
“We just want to spread the sport, “Bassi said.<\/p>\n
“We tried to tell them about wrestling and demonstrate some of the moves.<\/p>\n
“We came up today and it has been really good.”<\/p>\n
Bassi said the Victorian education system had embraced wrestling, with a 10-week program starting in some schools in July.<\/p>\n
“It will be part of the Victorian curriculum, and that will start on July 9, “he said.<\/p>\n
“Hopefully, more kids will get involved and we can hold the Victorian schools title on September 10.”<\/p>\n
While Nicholson does not plan on entering the state title, he will hold a few bouts under the banner “brotherly love”.<\/p>\n
