EASTON — Former wrestling standout Jack Cuvo didn’t pay more than $11,000 in supplies he ordered from a wrestling mat manufacturer two years ago, according to a lawsuit filed Friday in Northampton County Court.<\/p>\n
Reached at his Palmer Township home Friday, Cuvo said he intends to pay for the supplies, although he disputes the $11,618 figure named in the suit.<\/p>\n
The suit says Cuvo received $11,618 in supplies from Pinnacle Athletic Mats of Chilliwack, British Columbia, but didn’t pay for them in early 2003.<\/p>\n
Cuvo said he suffered from financial difficulties after he was injured by Easton police officers and unable to work. Police attacked him during a traffic stop on Oct. 9, 2001. Cuvo was awarded $2.5 million in a settlement approved by city council last month.<\/p>\n
Cuvo said he lost $800,000 in income in the four years following the melee.<\/p>\n
Cuvo said he called the mat company last month and explained he would be receiving settlement funds soon and would pay what he owed.<\/p>\n
Cuvo said critics should not blame him for any potential increase in taxes resulting from his settlement. Taxpayers should blame the police, he said.<\/p>\n
“To blame me for the increase in taxes is outrageous, “Cuvo said. “In fact, it’s the citizens who are at fault because they have allowed this behavior to go on so long.”<\/p>\n
