Webster Schroeder wrestler Gregor Gillespie powered through the competition during his high school career capturing five Monroe County titles, five Section V titles, five super sectional titles, and state championships in his sophomore and senior seasons. Gillespie finished those two seasons undefeated with a combined 91-0 record.<\/p>\n
“That’s what I like about wrestling is that it is an individual sport,”\u009d Gillespie said. “When you are out there on the mat it’s only you. You can’t blame anybody else, and you can’t rely on anybody else.”\u009d<\/p>\n
Gregor trains year round and it’s very convenient as he has a wrestling mat in his basement. His father Brad, a wrestler himself in high school and college, acquired the mat from Monroe Community College. And from the time when he was six years old when Gregor needed a workout partner, dad was always there.<\/p>\n
“We do go live matches and we do wrestle like full out, but never to the point where we get angry or anything at each other,”\u009d said Gregor.<\/p>\n
“It’s been too painful and his skill level has gone up so far that I really don’t go with him anymore, this year especially. Last year it was bad, this year was worse,”\u009d Brad explained.<\/p>\n
Things will continue to improve for Gregor though, who will wrestle at Division I Edinboro University in Pennsylvania next year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
